The Remarriage Question
by Dave
(Northbridge, MA )
I am a Christian man that is in a new relationship with a divorced Christian woman. Her ex-husband left her to go back to his previous wife. The Bible says we can not marry a divorced woman except for fornication. Is it fornication for this man to go back to his ex and leave his present wife?
Can I have a long term relationship leading to marriage with this woman?
Thanks,
Dave
James' Answer: Finding the Answer
Dave,
Thanks for bringing your question on Christian remarriage after divorce to this forum... I know a lot of believers who have struggled with this question.
In cases like this, it is best to surround yourself with godly counselors... your pastor, other Biblically-grounded professionals that your pastor recommends, your spiritual mentors, etc.
If you do not have these people to turn to, it is time to find a Bible-based group of believers with godly leadership... and connect with them. There is nothing more vulnerable than a Christian who is not connected and surrounded with those who believe and speak and search out the Truth.
I encourage you to search through the scriptures again... not taking what you think you know for granted... looking for God's grand design for marriage and not for a legal code.
As you read and search this out, ask yourself these questions... "Is what I want, and what my flesh wants eclipsing what God wants for me?" and "Am I hearing only what I want to be told, or am I truly listening to what God has to say?"
Here are some scriptures to start with... Malachi 2:13-16 Matthew 5 Matthew 19 Romans 7 1 Corinthians 7 Ephesians 5
Here are a couple of videos that speak to the subject...
Does the Bible allow for Divorce in the case of Adultery?
Can I Remarry if my spouse divorces and remarries another?
Blessings,
-James
